Aces Up
A hand with two pair where one of the pair is Aces.
Button
A round disc that represents the dealer position in a game where the players do not deal the cards themselves. This is considered to be the best position in the game.
Deck
In a standard poker game, fifty-two cards made up of Ace through King of each of the four suits. Some poker games are also played with a joker added.
Face Card
Jack, Queen or King -- In a standard deck, the cards with "faces" on them.
Flop
In a flop game, these are the first three community cards, dealt face-up after the first round of betting.
Flop Game
The family of games that use 5 community cards, paired with a players hole cards to make the best possible poker hand. The first 3 community cards are known as the flop. The two most popular flop games are Hold 'em and Omaha.
Flush
Five non-consecutive cards, all of the same suit. See Poker Hand Rankings.
Flush Draw
Needing one more card of a suit to make a flush.
Four of a Kind
Four cards of the same value. Also known as quads. See Poker Hand Rankings.
Full Boat
A full house.
Full House
A hand made up of trips and a pair. Also known as a full boat. See Poker Hand Rankings.

Gutshot Straight Draw
Needing a card in the middle ("the gut") to make a straight (i.e. 6,7,x,9,10 or 9,x,J,Q,K). Also called an inside straight.
Hold 'Em
A poker game in which players are dealt two hole cards, which they combine with 5 community cards to form the best 5-card poker hand.
Hole Card
Cards dealt face down that remain concealed from other players until the Showdown.
Inside Straight
Needing a card in the middle to make a straight (i.e. 6,7,x,9,10 or 9,x,J,Q,K). Also called a Gutshot Straight Draw.
Joker
A fifty-third card added to the deck that serves as a wild card.
Omaha
A flop game in which the player is dealt 4 hole cards, from which they must use exactly two in the making of their hand.
Open Ended Straight Draw
Needing a card on either end to make a straight For instance, if you have 6,7,8,9 then either a 5 or a T will give you the straight.

Paint
Slang for any face card, Jack, Queen or King.
Pair
Two cards of the same value. See Poker Hand Rankings.
Position
Your seat as it relates to the dealer. To the immediate left of the dealer is "early position"; to the right of the dealer is "late position"; in between is "middle position". The dealer (or "button") is considered the best position in the game.
Post Oak Bluff
A minimum-size bet intended to create the impression that you want a call.
Quads
Four cards of the same value; Four of a Kind
Royal Flush
A Straight Flush made with with A, K, Q, J, T. See Poker Hand Rankings.

Straight
Five consecutive cards, not all of the same suit. An ace may be either high or low for a straight. See Poker hand rankings.
Straight Draw
Needing one more card to make a straight.
Straight Flush
Five consecutive cards of the same suit. See Poker Hand Rankings.
Suit
One of the symbols on each card, either Hearts , Spades , Diamonds or Clubs . In poker, the suits do not have hierarchical value.
The Nuts
The best possible hand. One that cannot be beaten at the present time.
Three Of A Kind
Three cards of the same value (also called "trips"). See Poker Hand Rankings.
Trips
Slang for Three of a Kind
Two Pair
A hand with two pairs at the same time. See Poker Hand Rankings.

Wild Card
A card that can be played as any value. Usually designated by a joker.
